Three individuals who were arrested in possession of alcohol, have been remanded.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the remand period for the three suspects was set, after they were arrested for being in possession of a hefty amount of alcohol bottles, during an operation conducted in Hulhumalé.
The operation stemmed from information received by the police Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit.
Arrested were three foreigners including two Indian nationals; Bikara Kumar, 24 and Akilesh Kumar, 27 as well as a Nepalese, Umaakant Chaudary, 35.
The operation in the capital city’s suburban extension was conducted on November 7.
It was conducted jointly by officers of the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit as well as the Hulhumalé Police.
A pickup was stopped on the streets in Phase II as part of the operation.
Officers confiscated 48 bottles of alcohol inside the vehicle and took the three suspects involved into custody.
Upon being presented to the court for their remand hearing, all three were remanded for a 10-day period.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
