The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported that two men were suspected of being under the influence of drugs when their vehicle lost control and caused a dangerous crash in Hulhumalé early Saturday morning.
According to the police institution, the incident occurred around 6am on 8 November 2025, along Nirolhu Magu in Hulhumalé Phase I. The car, reportedly attempting to avoid an oncoming vehicle, collided with a motorcycle before veering off course and crashing into a storefront.
Videos circulating online show the car mounted on the sidewalk, narrowly missing the store’s glass windows. The front of the car was heavily damaged, and the motorcycle involved also sustained visible damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police have arrested two Maldivian men; a 29-year-old and a 26-year-old, in connection with the incident. Both are suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
This latest incident highlights the growing number of traffic accidents across the capital Malé City, particularly in Hulhumalé, where reckless and impaired driving continue to pose serious safety risks. Recent accidents in the area have led to fatalities, and police statistics show that more than 2,500 accidents have been reported so far this year.
