A man has been arrested under accusations of sexual abuse.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that arrested on suspicions of sexually abusing a disabled man in an island in the southern area of Maldives, was a 57-year-old Maldivian man.
MPS received reports of the case on 14 April 2024.
The suspect in the case was arrested on 11 September 2024.
The arrest was made under a court order.
Upon being presented to the court for his remand hearing on September 12, the court ordered to remand him pending sentencing.
As the victim of sexual abuse is a person with disabilities, authorities are investigating the case as one of sexual abuse of a minor, in accordance with the law.
