An arrest has been made from Thinadhoo City, in connection with a drug operation.
In a statement publicized on Sunday, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation was conducted as part of efforts by the police institution to bring an end to drug smuggling, peddling and trafficking attempts nationwide and to crackdown on such networks.
The operation was conducted jointly by officers stationed in Thinadhoo City of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, the high-visibility team and police intelligence unit, on July 11.
The operation stemmed from an intel report of drug possession.
Arrested was a 30-year-old Maldivian man.
Officers arrested the 30-year-old and conducted a raid at his residence under a court order.
Police confiscated 11 pieces of cellophane filled with suspected narcotics during the raid.
Upon being presented to the Thinadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the suspect was remanded for a period of five days.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
