Mohamed Mafaz Hussain Saleem, G. Shaz, K. Malé, charged in the murder of Nadheem Abdul Raheem who was stabbed and killed inside Terminal Café in Male' City on 27 July 2017, was among the three individuals arrested under allegations of attacking an officer of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that arrested in connection with the case on Friday were a 20-year-old, a 21-year-old and a 25-year-old.

The suspects were presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Saturday.

The Criminal Court remanded the three individuals by seven days.

The three suspects are accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer and damaging property.

The case is currently under further investigation.

Mafaz was charged with assaulting and killing a person with a sharp weapon in the case of Nadheem's murder. However, he was acquitted by the Criminal Court after a trial that dragged on for six years, on 14 November 2022.

Nadheem was stabbed inside Terminal Café and died from his injuries after two days in the hospital, on  29 July 2017.

Four individuals were charged in connection with the murder including Mafaz, R. Innamaadhoo native Hussain Shamin, L. Gan native Ali Nifaz and GA. Gemanafushi native Mohamed Karam Suhail.

Shamin, Nifaz and Karam were charged as accomplices to murder and were also acquitted by the Criminal Court, alongside Mafaz.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had appealed the acquittal of the suspects in Nadheem’s murder trial, at the High Court.
