Charges have been raised against two individuals, in connection with a case of murder inside a shop in the congested capital, Malé City.
A group of individuals barged into ‘Class’ shop in Maafannu-ward of the capital city at around 09:30pm on 24 February 2023 and murdered Mohamed Ahmed Didi, who hailed from Hithadhoo island of Seenu atoll.
Mohamed Ahmed Didi succumbed to injuries attained in the stabbing, while being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) forwarded charges against two suspects linked to the case, to the Criminal Court on 30 November 2023.
Charges have been raised against Ibrahim Faih Nizam, native to Maradhoo-Feydhoo district of Addu City, as well as Siruhaan Ali, native to Gaadhiffushi island of Thaa atoll.
They were charged with deliberately murdering an individual using a sharp weapon, under Section 5(c) in reference to Section 5(a) of the Prohibition of Intimidation and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act.
Both suspects have been jailed pending sentencing.
Faih, 25, turned himself in after being on the run for over a month. Faih was arrested under accusations of being involved in a case of gang violence and assault inside a café.
However, Faih is currently remanded in connection with the murder case.
A video linked to the case shows the victim with multiple stab wounds, lying motionless on the ground, over a pool of blood.
