Cases have been lodged with Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) over the threats made on RaajjeTV’s Assistant Editor Ahmed Muhsin.
A letter sent to the two agencies on Monday stated that reliable sources had reported that a group was planning to attack RaajjeTV journalist and Assistant Editor Ahmed Muhsin.
The letter said that ‘two reliable sources had reported that an attack was being planned, funded by some political figures’.
‘A report of an attack on Muhsin deeply concerns the station and we request [authorities] to take action and measures to ensure safety and security of Muhsin,’ the letter said.
Journalists with RaajjeTV have been targeted on multiple occasions. As such, journalist Azmoon Ahmed and Assistant Editor Ahmed Fairooz have been the targets of messages, warning them that they will be murdered.
In October 2013, the station's primary studio and main control room had also been broken into by a group of masked men and razed in arson attack.
