Well-wishers of Yameen Rasheed, the writer who was found stabbed to death last week, have decided to hold a demonstration in front of the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka.

The demonstration is to be held on Monday, 8th May, at 15:30. Organizers of the demonstration told RaajjeMV that Yameen Rasheed was a staunch supporter of equal rights and opportunity without discrimination on grounds nationality and religion, and that his murder deserves speedier investigation.

As such, they had noted Yameen Rasheed’s involvement in the efforts calling for justice in journalist Ahmed Rilwan’s disappearance.

Yameen’s father Hussein Rasheed had been in Sri Lanka last week to bring the murder to international attention and met with foreign missions to the Maldives that are based there.

On Tuesday, he had submitted 811 letters to the Maldives Police Service, all from well-wishers calling on authorities to involve foreign investigators in their search for the murderers.

The police had rejected them, along with a petition with 5,000 signatures.

Yameen Rasheed was brutally stabbed over 14 times in the chest, head, and neck. He was found at around 2:56 am on Sunday, 23rd April.
