The voter’s registry for the upcoming local council elections, finalized by the Elections Commission, includes the names of 16 deceased individuals, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has said.

MDP, in a letter addressed to the commission, called the validity of the registry into question based on the names on the list and the division of constituencies. As such, the party noted discrepancies in determining the division between the North and South Galolhu constituencies.

Further, the party noted that the registry included those that had not registered to vote in the elections and specified that the aforementioned sixteen deceased individuals had appeared in the Maradhoo Feydhoo constituency in Addu atoll.

Both the MDP and the opposition Jumhooree Party have refused to sign the registry.
