Vote tampering a reality, be vigilant: Shifaz
Shifaz reiterated calls for vigilance
He called not to leave polling stations
Local Council Elections will be held on 6th May

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz repeated his calls for vigilance during the upcoming Local Council Elections, stating that the current Elections Commission (EC) will do everything in their power to ensure a win for President Abdullah Yameen.

Speaking in the rally held in Baarah island of Haa Alif Atoll on Sunday, Shifaz said that the voters must remember two very essential aspects. He said the voters must vote and that they must vote for the candidates from the Party.

“Vote for the Party, with our teams.  Do not choose another option,” Shifaz said, referring to the amendment that does not nullify the vote even if the voter votes for a single candidate.

Secondly, Shifaz urged all not to leave the polling station, adding that ballots must be cast and counted before the members.

He noted that there were many attempts to change the results and urged vigilance. Shifaz said that it was likely that additional votes may be cast as well.

“We cannot expect them to do this. The current Elections Commission will resort to theft to ensure a win for President Abdullah Yameen,” Shifaz said.
