Elections on May 6th

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz has revealed that they have received information of vote tampering.

Speaking in MDP campaign camp in Thakandhoo Island, Shifaz said that President Yameen will not be able to watch his defeat in the Local Council Elections. He added that the elections were delayed just because the President was not prepared for it.

Therefore, Shifaz said with the scenes from all across the nation, highlighting a loss of support, the Government will seek to change the vote.

He urged caution, stating that the public must be vigilant especially in voting centers and with the ballot boxes. Shifaz noted that it was difficult to believe that this election could be free and fair, given the status of the Elections Commission.

The MDP team was received from the island warmly. The island is home to 965 citizens and three candidates from MDP will contest against the two from Progressive Party of the Maldives.
