Almost a week since the brutal murder of writer Yameen Rasheed and the police, who had pledges to commit every resource available to the investigation, have yet to identify any of the suspects caught on CCTV footage.

Those condemning the murder had gathered on Friday to call for speedy results in the investigation, where the family of abducted journalist Ahmed Rilwan had explicitly condemned the state’s failure for justice in his disappearance as well.

In regards to Yameen’s murder, the police had only managed to reveal screen-captures of two suspects caught on a CCTV camera inside the residence where the crime was committed.

At the press conference to reveal these images, assistant commissioner Abdulla Nawaz said that they were at the brink of identifying the two suspects, though one of their faces is clearly visible.

While the police have called for public assistance in identifying them, the police have no comprehensible reason to not publicize the identities of the two individuals.

The police’s media official had declined to comment on the matter at the time of publishing.
