The Maldives National Defence Force said that the boat had been struck by an object drifting in the water
The boat was travelling from capital city Malé to Mathiveri island in Alifu Alifu atoll

A speed boat travelling from capital city Malé to Mathiveri island in Alifu Alifu atoll has sunk after taking in water from a crack in its hull.

The ‘G-Throw’ boat was found 18 miles north of Malé by another boat travelling another island on the atoll.

The Maldives National Defence Force said that the boat had been struck by an object drifting in the water, and advised other travelers using the route to be cautious.

While it can be summised that this object is strong enough to endure the hull of a travelling speed boat, the officials had not specified as to what it is.
