Speaking to RaajjeMV, he said that he received a phone call asking him to present himself to the police headquarters for questioning regarding an ongoing investigation, but that he had informed them he is currently out of Malé.
Noting that he had informed the police of when he will be returning to Malé, the opposition parliamentarian said that it is unclear on why he has been summoned.
Ali Hussain, a strong critic of the government, is the latest political figure to be summoned to authorities for questioning. In addition, MPs Abdulla Riyaz, Faris Maumoon and Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim have been summoned to police, with trials ongoing against Qasim and Riyaz. Police have asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to raise charges against Faris Maumoon as well.
