International parties concerned over situation

Key figures of the opposition movement have shared information of the current situation in the Maldives with Australian Ambassador Bryce Hutchesson.

This is part of the initiative carried out by the opposition and is the last in the series of meetings conducted in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Speaking to Raajje.mv from Colombo, Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid said that the meetings had been concluded on Wednesday and that they had held meetings with eight missions.

“At every mission, we’re communicating the offenses carried out by this Government that contravenes the Constitution, how they’re jailing members of opposition, the murkiness of the political situation, the abuse of Maldivian economy, the upcoming Local Council Elections, murder of Yameen Rasheed and how it is important that an independent inquiry is carried out,” he said.

Shahid said that the foreign parties are well aware of the situation in the Maldives.

Representatives from Adhaalath Party, Progressive Party of the Maldives, Maldivian Democratic Party and Jumhooree Party as well as Abdullah Shahid, Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain and former Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem had attended the meetings.
