A video showing Fisheries Minister Mohamed Shainee get into heated discussion with a fisherman from Rasdhoo island, displeased with government policies, has surfaced.

The fisherman is seen ferociously question Shainee over incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign pledge that professional fishermen would receive a monthly income of at least MVR 10,000 regardless of their yield.

The man questions Minister Shainee stating that he has continuously ‘filled various forms and is yet to receive said allowance. He further asks the minister if anyone has received it at all’.

“How many boats? How many people? How many hundreds of fishing depart every day from the Maldives” he says.

Minister Shainee is seen responding harshly to the criticism, as he asks the man how much he earns every month currently.

“How much do earn monthly? You better be honest” he says, to which the fisherman responds that income fluctuates from month to month.

The man futher answers that he makes roughly eight or ten thousand, by which time Shainee interrupts and says, ‘If you lie-‘ as the video ends.

After the incidents, that occurred while the minister visited a fishing boat docked at the island’s harbor,  surfaced – he made a tweet about the immense constructiveness of his visit.
