Abdullah Riyaz trial: Court to take evidence today
Court to take statements of witnesses
Four police officers as state witnesses

Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing of the case of obstruction charges filed against Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader and Kimbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz for 3pm on Wednesday.

In today’s hearing, the Court will hear statements from state witnesses.

The last hearing of the case was heard on Sunday. Prosecution had put forward statements from four Police officers, a forensic report and Court orders as evidence.

In his defense Riyaz had presented three Court orders, each with varying accounts on how his phone should be unlocked.

The charge read that Police officers had approached the Parliamentarian at around 2139hrs on March 27th and had requested him to unlock his phone as part of their investigation. The Parliamentarian had denied to comply with the request and therefore the prosecution claimed that MP Riyaz had obstructed the duties of the police officers, deliberately.

In the middle of the hearings on Thursday, Riyaz had handed over the phone’s lock codes to Police.
