Opposition Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim’s lawyers have revealed knowledge of an ongoing plot to frame him for possession of firearms.
The legal team said in a statement released on Monday night that the schemers attempt to plant two pistols in a property that the business tycoon is liable for.
The information has been shared with the Maldives Police Service, the lawyers said.
The statement said that a man had presented himself to Qasim last week, telling him that he wished to talk in private.
The man had reportedly told Qasim that there was an ongoing plot to frame him for possession of firearms and have him prosecuted for terrorism. He had shown two photographs of what he claimed to be the firearms that the schemers intend to plant.
