Police have yet to apprehend any suspects in Sunday’s brutal murder of Yameen Rasheed, a prominent pro-democracy activist and writer.

An official from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), which had guaranteed utilization of every resource available to it would be dedicated to finding those culpable in the murder, said that the investigation is currently ongoing.

Ahmed Shifan, the media official, said that the MPS is working to conduct a press conference regarding the investigation.

Yameen’s family reported that he had sustained 14 stabs to his chest, one to head, and another wounding his neck.

He was discovered in the stairwell of his home at around 02:56 am on Sunday. He had walked hom from the Maldives Stock Exchange, after having worked late, at around 02:20 am.

Yameen was heavily involved in the protests and activities calling for answers in journalist Ahmed Rilwan's disappearance.
