MP Faris Maumoon will attend police headquarters on Monday for questioning over a reportedly ongoing investigation.
The parliamentarian has been spearheading motions against the parliament speaker and his deputy, and has spoken against opposition partner, Jumhooree Party leader, Qasim Ibrahim's arrest.
The motions had caused pro-government MPs to propose and pass an amendment to raise the number of required signatures to file motions against the parliament speaker on April 10th.
He is also facing prosecution for charges he has described as politically motivated, which have been forwarded tot he Prosecutor General's Office.
RaajjeMV understands that police filed charges against Maummon over allegations of outstanding compensation for a state expense during his father former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s longstanding tenure in office.
