Protesters say the charges are politically motivated

Constituents of Maamigili have protested calling for the release of their Parliamentarian Qasim Ibrahim.

Maamigili Council President’s Deputy Abdullah Mufeed said that most of the 3,000 population had turned up for the protest. He said the protesters will only cease their demonstrations when Qasim is released. Maamigili is located near many tourist resorts and a regional airport.

 

 

Protesters said that Qasim’s arrest was on baseless accusations and is politically motivated. Therefore, they say that he must be released, adding that there was no benefit for the Government. He added that Maamigili Constituency will not endorse either the Government or Government backed candidates in the upcoming Local Council Elections.

 

 

Many have condemned the Parliamentarians arrest.
