Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has expressed concern over the arrest of Jumhooree Party Leader and Maamigili Constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim.
A tweet issued by the organization’s official twitter account stated that they were “very concerned over arrest of opposition MP Qasim” and “urge[d] Maldives authorities to see to due process & rule of law.”
The tweet also said they were monitoring the situation.

following his arrest shortly after midnight on Thursday, Criminal Court set Qasim’s remand for 15 days.
