Cannot govern by brute force for long: Thaufeeq
This is not compassion
There are no enemies in the political field
Cannot govern by force

Former advisor during President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s tenure, Ahmed Thaufeeq has stated that it was impossible to sustain a rule purely by brute force.

Speaking in the rally held in M. Kunooz by the joint opposition parties Monday night, Thaufeeq said that ruling was only possible by using kindness and compassion. As such, he said both former Presidents Maumoon and Nasheed, as well as Qasim Ibrahim were leaders that had public support and adulation. Thaufeeq added that this cannot be achieved by using brute force.

Noting that there are no enemies on the political field, Thaufeeq said there were only contenders. Given this, he said it was incredulous that such contenders were jailed on various charges. This, he said will only serve to destroy their value to the nation. Thaufeeq added that Colonel Mohamed Nazim, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb were in jail and that they were seen as enemies by the state.

Therefore, he said this was not a just rule and the citizens must rise up against this. He noted that public elected President Yameen with high hopes. Stating that if the situation had gone awry, then the public must seek action, within the legal means.

He warned that the Government will seek to destroy the opposition movement.
