Staffs at the Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) have expressed concern over the inefficiency cause by a shortage in vehicles used for prisoner transport.
The complaints arose after three suspects who had a hearing at 11:30 on Monday were not escorted to it even until 12:10 forcing the judge to delay it to 1:00 pm.
An official from the MCS told RaajjeMV that the vehicle shortage, caused due to a breakdown of all vans in use by the service in January, has been problematic.
The official further said that more ground vehicles have been ordered, though there has been a considerable delay.
MCS’ transport vehicles are used to carry prisoners to hearings, transferring between holding cells, and carrying them to health facilities and other locations.
