Maldives Police Service (MPS) has seized at 1.3 kilograms of drugs in a special operation conducted in Male’.
Speaking in a press conference held in Iskandhar Building, Police Head of Superintendent Moosa Ali said that two individuals were searched as part of an operation conducted on Saturday. He said they had recovered 100 rubber bullets from the two individuals. The two were arrested around 1445hrs on Saturday.
A search, carried out under a court order, on one of the residences revealed an additional 26 packets of drugs.
Police say that a 43-year-old Maldivian man and a 16-year-old expatriate were arrested. The drugs are suspected to be heroin. Police also discovered packing materials as well.
Police estimate that the street value of drugs amount to around MVR 6 million.
Police in 2014, seized the largest amount of drugs; 24 kilograms were seized, with the street value set at around MVR 1 billion.
