Political crisis in Maldives
MP Ali Hussain calls on all lawyers to defend the nation
Will amass signatures of 42 MPs
Lawyers have to speak out against injustice
Action must be taken now

Lawyer and Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain has called on all lawyers to rise up in the defense of the nation.

Speaking in Tuesday night’s rally in M. Kunooz, headquarters of opposition alliance Jumhooree Party (JP), Ali Hussain said there were around 900 lawyers working in various capacities in the nation, who are yet to raise their voices against the injustice.

Ali Hussain added that the Constitution had been trampled upon on two occasions. Noting that only a handful of lawyers had voiced their concerns over this, the Parliamentarian questioned lawyers on their intentions regarding the future of the nation. He said action must be taken now.

Directing his comments towards Police and armed forces, MP Ali Hussain brought up the sacrifices made by their previous generations. He also urged them to remember their mandate and vows.

Stating that everyday Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim spent behind bars was one more day the Commissioner of Police violated the Constitution and mandate. He called on the Police and the Government to free him immediately.

MP Ali Hussain said his desire to see President Abdullah Yameen to resign was far greater than ousting Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh. He said the opposition will amass the required 42 signatures for the Speaker impeachment, as per the newly amended Parliament procedures.
