Social media activist Thayyib Shaheem had a ‘blackout’ a few nights ago causing concern over his health, Nazim Sattar, a reasonably well-known lawyer and fellow activist, has said.

Sattar said he had met Shaheem at his holding cell in Dhoonidhoo island on Sunday.

While the Criminal Court remanded him for another 10 days on Saturday, Shaheem’s lawyer, Mahfooz Saeed, said that Shaheem was arrested for ‘spreading false information’ and causing ‘public fear’ over the H1N1 outbreak that started in March.

The ‘prisoner of conscience’, as deemed by Amnesty International, was arrested on March 18.

RaajjeMV had then received credible information that he was arrested regarding an audio clip he allegedly leaked online, of the ruling party’s parliamentary leader.

Amnesty International has further called on its ‘Urgent Action Network’ to pressure authorities towards his release.

Although there have also been allegations that he was being kept in squalid conditions, the police have assured that Shaheem's detentions meets 'international' standards.
