Kimbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz says that the united opposition will do whatever it takes for national reform, even if it means holding a no confidence vote on President, if necessary.
Speaking in a press conference held by the opposition on Thursday, Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Riyaz said that they were steadfast in their determination to bring in reform to the nation, even if it meant bringing in a no confidence motion on President.
“If national reform can by brought in alone by changing the heads of the various Commissions, we are prepared to do that, we will push for that, without any discrimination. Even if it means we have to impeach the President, I’m not undecided,” he said.
Riyaz said the role of President was a responsibility handed over by the public and if the President is unable to do so, then the citizens will fill in for the President.
“The President is not one with a divine doctrine. It’s a job given by the public. He’s carrying out a responsibility handed over by the citizens. If he fails, then they will talk about it,” he said.
No confidence motions have been filed against Speaker Abdullah Maseeh Mohamed and Deputy Speaker Moosa Manik. If successful, the opposition plans to follow up with no confidence motions on Cabinet Ministers, Attorney General, Prosecutor General and heads of Independent Institutions, as revealed in Thursday’s press conference.
