Hospital rules Raudha's death a suicide: Bangladeshi police to RaajjeMV

Islamic Medical College Hospital has ruled Raudha Athif’s death a suicide, informs Officer in Charge at Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi, Zilur Rahman.

Officer Rahman told RaajjeMV that the hospital, in Rajshahi district where she was residing had ruled her death a suicide on Wednesday.

Raudha Athif, 20, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her dorm room in Bangladesh on Wednesday. She was studying medicine at the Islamic Bank Medical College.

He said that the team from Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) had arrived at the scene as soon as it received the report, adding that they had questioned students from the medical college, including her friends.

“We asked them if she had any problems. They said that she was tense about exams that is coming up next month,” he told RaajjeMV on Thursday afternoon.

He further said that the students had informed the police that they were not aware if she had been having any personal issues, adding that she lived alone in her dorm room.

While Dhaka Tribune reported that her friends had found her hanging from the ceiling fan through her room window, after she had missed breakfast the morning, Officer Rahman corroborated the story, adding that her room had been locked from inside.

Noting that “she had set up a pillow on a chair on top of her bed to reach the fan”, Commissioner Shafikul of RMP had told Dhaka Tribune that they “are not ruling out suicide”, on Wednesday.

Dhaka Tribune had reported that strangulation marks were found on Raudha’s neck, which has been denied by the hospital, said Officer Rahman.

He further told RaajjeMV that Raudha’s family landed in Bangladesh on Thursday afternoon, with a senior official from the Maldives Police Service.

A photo of her in the turquoise sea, taken by photographer Mohamed "Sotti" Shifaz had gone viral over two years ago, landing her one of the top spots in the Maldivian fashion industry.

Well-wishers and supporters have been using social media to send out condolences to her family and friends, as well as express their sadness over her passing.
