RaajjeMV can confirm that the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam, had entered the parliament office late Sunday night.
A RaajjeTV journalist had witnessed Shiyam entering the building.
RaajjeTV’s senior journalist, Mohamed Wisam, said that he saw the Chief of Defence enter the parliament building at around 2:30 am on Sunday. He was in casual clothes, and was with another individual, also believed to be a military officer.
Wisam said that at the time, additional officers were active inside the building, as well as outside it.
While Shiyam went into parliament building late Sunday night, a no-confidence motion against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed is scheduled for Monday.
The parliament session began at 9 am, and the motion was submitted by MP for Dhiggaru constituency Ahmed Faris Maumoon. Maseeh dismissed the motion, saying the allegations were 'baseless'.
Parliamentary Group leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), MP Ahmed Nihan called for ‘roll call votes’.
