15 lawmakers have filed a no-confidence motion against deputy speaker, Moosa Manik.

With voting on the no-confidence motion against speaker of parliament Abdulla Maseeh just around the corner, 15 lawmakers have filed the same motion against his deputy, Moosa Manik.

It is yet unclear which MPs had signed the motion against deputy speaker Manik, former a longstanding member of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party.

The no-confidence motion against Maseeh was filed earlier this month, with 26 signatures from MPs aligned with every political party, including the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives, and an independent member.

The six-point motion accuses Maseeh of ‘refusing to ensure’ equality in parliament, disregarding the rule of law, disrespecting the system of checks and balances, disregard for procedure, and ‘subverting’ democracy.

Lawmakers are to vote on the motion on Monday, 27th March 2017.
