Ahmed ‘Tom’ Thariq has resigned from his position as deputy leader of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s Parliamentary Group (PG).
The lawmaker for Mahibadhoo constituency has confirmed his resignation to RaajjeMV.
MP Thariq tendered his resignation on Sunday.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’ shortly after, Tom revealed that he resigned from his position as deputy leader of the main ruling party’s PG, as he could not devote his time to carry out the responsibilities the job entitles, due to personal issues he is facing at the moment.
Tom was appointed as the deputy PG leader of PNC on 22 May 2024.
The lawmaker had represented Mahibadhoo constituency during the 17th as well as the 19th parliament assembly.
Thariq, a former national football star, is also known for his involvement in several activities of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
Tom also ran for president of FAM this year.
