A young officer of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), has been killed in a shark attack.

The incident was reported from Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll.

Confirming the death of the officer, an MNDF official told RaajjeMV that the deceased officer has been identified as Lance Corporal Mohamed Zaidhan, 23 and native to Ungoofaaru island of Raa atoll.

The MNDF officer is to fallen victim to a shark attack while undergoing training in the Laamu atoll island.

The attack was reported at around 1pm, Sunday.

Zaidhan had attained serious injuries to his thigh and succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at L. Gan Regional Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He was pronounced dead by doctors at around 08:40pm on Sunday.

Zaidhan joined MNDF in 2019.
