This is the foreign minister’s first official visit to India since assuming office

Discussions have been held on forging more opportunities for collaboration between the governments of Maldives and India.

This was done during the official talks held between Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Thursday.

The talks were held as part of the Maldivian minister’s recent brief official visit to the neighboring country.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around all aspects of the partnership between the two countries, to forge opportunities for future collaboration in priority areas.

Speaking at the meeting, the two ministers expressed mutual commitment to continue working closely together on priority areas of mutual interest, both bilaterally and in the international arena.

The officials talks also saw the two ministers acknowledging the fruitful economic partnership and progress of projects that have been facilitated through Indian grant assistance and line of credit initiatives. 

Discussions were also held on perspectives on development cooperation, tourism initiatives as well as human resource development, underscoring a partnership built on mutual trusts shared interests and values.

The dialogue also saw the two ministers touching upon the importance of exploring additional avenues to enhance the partnership between Maldives and India.

Extending appreciation for the steadfast support provided by the government of India in fostering and advancing economic, trade, and investment ties between the two nations, FM Zameer thanked India for its committed role in the socioeconomic development of the Maldives.

India has renewed the quota for Maldives to import essential goods for one year which amounts to a significant increase compared to the year before.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that FM Zameer’s official visit to India mirrors the strong support and commitment between the two countries and also marks a new initiative of collaboration, signifying enduring friendship and shared goals.

This is the foreign minister’s first official visit to India since assuming office.
