The government has decided to offer extensive coverage for treatments sought by patients suffering from Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) under the universal health insurance scheme of Maldives, Aasandha Company Limited.
This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu following a meeting held with his Cabinet of Ministers on Sunday.
The decision was based on deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Social and Family Development during Sunday’s meeting.
With this decision, the challenges facing patients being denied coverage due to the diagnostic links of these conditions including instances where infertility has been diagnosed, will be addressed.
The country’s universal health insurance scheme already offers coverage for patients seeking treatment for Endometriosis and PCOS.
The Muizzu administration plans to conduct a sensitization programme to raise awareness among healthcare professionals and further refine treatment protocols at government hospitals, in order to facilitate the implementation of this decision.
This initiative is a key component of the Muizzu administration’s 'Hafthaa 14' roadmap.
