Authorities have cracked down on a drug smuggling attempt.

The Maldives Customs Service revealed that they cracked down on a smuggling attempt via courier, where a new type of drug was being smuggled into the Maldives.

As such, customs officers seized drugs weighing more than a half kilogram, being smuggled into the Maldives through a courier parcel shipped to the Maldives from Bahrain.

They inspected the parcel on September 17 following suspicions.

The suspected drugs had tested positive for Methorphan during the first phase of testing. This makes it the first time Methorphan has been seized while being smuggled into the Maldives.

Customs went on to reveal that the drugs seized weighed 604.50 grams in total.

The drugs have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
