Local Council Election 2017

A voter who cast her ballot for the North-Galolhu constituency reported that the election ink applied to her finger rubbed off within an hour. 

Fake result sheets have been circulating. 

The Elections Commission condemned the move and called it unlawful. 

Voting is ongoing for all constituencies in Addu City. Polling booths have been fully active since 8:30 am. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that international observers are present for Saturday's vote. 

Voting is yet to commence in Noth-Henveiru constituency, and for the T07.1.1 ballot box in North Mahchangoalhi. 

"The delay in commencing vote is caused by a shortage of ooficials, some officials who had guaranteed their presence is yet to arrive but we have sent vote boxes to all constituencies now" Elections Commission's member. 

Voting is yet to begin in Villimalé, the capital city's suburban extension. 

Voting is yet to commence in Himandhoo Island of Alifu Alifu Atoll. 

The N03.0.1 box for Kimbidhoo Constituency is yet to be placed. This ballot box is Kimbidhoo constituents resident in capital city Malé and will be placed in Aminiyya School.

Voting in Thinadhoo of Vaavu Atoll to start at 9:30 am as the two observers assigned from the Elections Commission can only arrive in Thinadhoo then, after casting their votes in Vaavu Felidhoo

Officials from the Elections Commission have begun checking ID cards of those that have queued up to cast their votes

Voters have begun queuing up at polling stations across capital city Malé, and in the outer lying atolls. Polling is to start at 8:00 am.

The Civil Court delayed the local council elections by two months on the request of the President Abdulla Yameen's faction of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), citing internal conflict. Postponed twice more, the council elections is to start at 8 am, and continue till 4 pm on Saturday.

A total of 422 ballot boxes have been placed, while there are 255,987 eligible voters.
