Maldives launches a campaign to support Syrian refugees
The first event of the campaign is scheduled for Friday
Three containers of aid supplies are planned to be delivered

Maldives has launched an International Aid Campaign to support Syrian refugees and the host communities in which they have settled.

According to an organizing official Adam Nafiu, the campaign is aimed to provide support to more 50,000 refugees who displaced due to the conflict in Syria.

Nafiu added that the main target of the campaign is to provide a container of tuna cans, blankets, mattresses along with food products for kids. A total of three containers are planned to be delivered while the first event of the campaign is scheduled to be held on Friday. He invited more and more organizations and companies to take part in the campaign.

Over the past 5 years, an average of 50 Syrian families have been uprooted every hour. More than 12 million people still don’t have access to clean water and nearly 9 million do not have enough to eat. The number of children who are out of school, including 2.1 million children who are still inside Syria. Nevertheless, 90 percent of requests for aid convoys to access besieged and hard to reach areas are denied.

The International Aid Campaign launched by Maldives would supply the aid via a trusted humanitarian organization in Turkey.

Nearly 5 million Syrians have been registered as refugees. Many families have lost everything – including for those who have fled the country, the protections that come up with citizenship.

Neighboring countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey have taken in millions of Syrian refugees. Many more Syrian families have risked everything to find safety outside the region.
