Lawyer Hassan Latheef, who is running for the post of MDP Chair, traveled to Noonu Atoll on Thursday, as part of his campaign.
Latheef met with residents of Noonu Atoll Kudafaree, Manadhoo, Miladhoo and Velidhoo on Thursday.
Latheef, as well as his team, called on them and answered their questions regarding the partys' future, including questions regarding the Local Council Elections.
He assured the residents that, if appointed to the post, his biggest priority will be ensuring that party leader, and former President Mohamed Nasheed is freed, and able to run in the 2018 presidential elections.
MP for North-Maafannu constituency, Imthiyaz Fahmy accompanied Latheef on the trip.
Latheef will travel to Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru and Naifaru on Friday, and meet with its residents as well, while on Saturday, he and the team will head to Lhaviyani Kurendhoo.
Latheef started a door to door campaign in Male City on Tuesday.
Speaking after the campaign on Tuesday, Latheef said his goal is to meet with as many members of the party as possible, adding that he intended to travel to the islands as well.
“I am not able to travel to all the islands. But I will try my best to go to as many as possible,” he said.
Latheef said that the main question he wanted to ask party members “is regarding the party’s future.”
Hassan Latheef is part of Nasheed’s legal team. Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment on a terrorism charge, in March 2015.
