Sifa Mohamed, shadow Education Minister of the Maldives United Opposition (MUO), has been appointed as its Deputy Leader.

MUO made the announcement on Tuesday.

During former President Mohamed Nasheed’s Administration, Sifa had served as the Minister of Education.

In a press release announcing Sifa’s appointment, MUO thanked its former deputy leader, Ali Waheed, who resigned on November 28.

The MUO commends his diligent services, especially for fostering courage, vigor and enthusiasm among supporters,” reads the press release.

Waheed also resigned from his post as the chairperson of MDP, on November 28. The party chair elections are set for February 10.
