Wisam was convicted on a separate obstruction charge on December 2016

Monday’s hearing for case against RaajjeTV senior video journalist, Mohamed Wisam has been cancelled.

Court was to hear witness statements from both the prosecution and defence at today’s hearing.

The hearing was scheduled for 11 am at Criminal Court on Monday.

While this is the third time that this hearing has been cancelled, today’s hearing was cancelled due to the tardiness of the defence lawyer, Abdulla Haseen.

Haseen explained that he was late as he had an additional hearing to attend at the same time, at a different court.

Wisam has been charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, following an arrest while covering an opposition rally on March 25, 2015.

While Wisam has denied the charge, he has submitted names of four witnesses as his defence.

State submitted names of two witnesses, along with video footage and a chart of the area cordoned off by the police, at the time of the arrest.

Wisam was convicted on obstruction charges on December 19, 2016, along with senior sport journalist, Leevaan Ali Nasir. Both were arrested while covering a bomb scare in November 2015. Though they have been convicted, their sentencing is scheduled for January 24.

In addition, sentencing hearing for case against senior cameraman Adam Zareer, who was arrested with Wisam in March 2015, is scheduled for January 16, while a hearing for the charges against COO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa is scheduled for January 29, after months of stalling.
