The government has initiated projects to develop 144 more resorts in the country, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said.

At an event held on Friday night to commemorate four years since the current administration’s assumption to office, Saeed said the completion of these resorts is expedited and will be complete ‘soon’.

Minister Saeed went on to say that this project, which costs an excess of USD 6.5 billion, will oversee the construction of 19,000 beds for the nation’s tourism sector.

“This is not a figure that you can find in relation to any investment, anywhere in the world, even the construction industry has seen a rise of over 1000-fold and construction related goods bought in have gone from 600 to 2 million tonnes” Saeed said.

Minister Saeed went on to say that the national airline had carried a total of six hundred thousand tourists into the country in the past three years. This figure is more than the nation had seen in the past 13 years, Saeed insisted.

Saeed’s concluding statement in his address was that President Abdulla Yameen has made immense contributions to the country, and called on all Maldivians to support him in the upcoming elections.
