Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar has met with the Emirati Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obaid Humaid Al Tayer to discuss agreements between both governments.
The meeting was held last week and the state officials discussed an agreement on double tax avoidance and other ongoing agreements on investment securities.
The aforesaid agreement on double tax avoidance was entered on October 17th. It was signed by President Abdulla Yameen who headed a delegation to the United Arab Emirates.
President Yameen was invited there by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayeed Al-Nahyan, and had signed a total of four agreements, including a reported USD 40 million loan to develop Maldives’ main airport.
Reports on Emirati media say that Minister Munavvar and State Minister Al Tayer had also discussed investment opportunities in the Maldives and how Emirati businesses can utilize the country’s markets.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed had also been to UAE last week.
