All will be able to contest elections, pressure on Govt. is intense: Nizar
Exclusion from international community is bar for Maldives
Joint opposition united on one goal, in spite of differing views

Hithadhoo South Constituency MP Ali Nizar has stated that all those who wished to contest in the 2018 Presidential will be able to do so. The Parliamentarian also noted the pressure on the Government was increasing as they did not wish to see a situation where multiple candidates can contest.

Speaking in the joint opposition rally in Maafannu Kunooz on Wednesday night, Nizar said exclusion from international community did not spell development for the Maldives. As such, the most pressing issue being discussed between international partners and the Maldives was the issue of free and fair elections as well as the opportunity for candidates to contest.

Nizar added the parties in the joint opposition were starkly different in nature and policies but were united in their efforts to save the nation.

Referring to the claims of division made by the ruling Yameen faction of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), Nizar said there will be differing opinions within a wide coalition and that it was not an issue.

In spite of the differing opinions, Nizar said all the leaders of the joint opposition parties were in agreement over the end goal, which is to save the nation. He noted that nation was besieged with corruption, failed state and a failing Parliament, Judiciary and independent institutions.

He also stressed that he had no doubt that former President Mohamed Nasheed will be the Presidential candidate from opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
