An announcement was placed on gazette, calling for contractors for the planned rally to mark four years to the administration of President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The announcement, published by the Home Ministry, called for contractors to prepare concept design for stage in carnival area, placing lighting and LED screens and sound, for the rally on November 16,2017.

Interested contractors are to clarify information at 11am on November 9, 2017 and to submit their bids by 10am by November 12, 2017.

The rally was first announced by ruling Yameen faction of the splintered Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) senior figures.

The announcement for contractors for the rally by Home Ministry had sparked outrage from the opposition. With this latest development, the allegations of abuse of state resources and civil employees for rallies of PPM had surfaced once again.

Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam had claimed this was an act of pure corruption.
