The Local Government Authority (LGA) has suspended Mohamed Hussain, President Lhaviyani atoll council.
His suspension comes after a probe into issues and complaints submitted against him, under Article 5 and 6 of its regulations.
While he will remain suspended for three months, he is prohibited from representing the council in any form, or taking part in council work.
Vice President Ibrahim Simau will take over Hussain's responsibilities for the duration of the suspension. LGA has sent in a letter to Simau, informing him of the matter.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Mohamed Hussain said that he is yet to be informed of any action being taken against him. Noting that he is currently on leave, Hussain said that he will know more on the matter once he returns back to work on Sunday.
Hussain was elected to Lhaviyani atoll council under a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket.
