A set of technical slumps had temporarily halted the government’s road development project in Kulhudhuffushi island of Haa Dhaal but is again underway, the Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has announced.

A statement from MRDC on Sunday evening said that such technical set backs are to be expected in larger projects such as that underway in Kulhudhuffushi.

The corporation’s acting Managing Director Ahmed Mamdhooh also attributed subcontracting as another reason why the capacity for such setbacks increase, which it did for the project with Sri Lanka’s Sierra Construction Limited.

Mamdhooh’s statement further said that MRDC wishes to refute claims on local news outlets that the project has been unsuccessful or abandoned. He called on said outlets to refrain on spreading ‘false reports that divide the people’.

Kulhudhuffushi island’s local government council earlier reported that the road development project has not seen any advancements in the last two weeks, and that there are rumours of a dispute between Sierra Construction and MRDC.

However, the MRDC maintained that it would finish the project in its entirety in the next two months.  The MRDC was given a total of MVR 6 million for the project to lay tarmac on 18 roads in Kulhudhuffushi.
