Moosa Rasheed, the recipient of 2016 Most Promising Journalist, has handed over the trophy to missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan’s mother.
On Wednesday night, when he was awarded the trophy by Maldives Media Council, announced his dedication.
Speaking to media after handing the award to Rilwan’s mother, Moosa said he did not know about Rilwan’s case when he had started in media. He added that during this short period in media, he grew aware of the case, the challenges faced by local journalists and the failure of state institutions in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Moosa added that he had begun work with the aim to dedicate an award to Rilwan, if he ever earned such an accolade.
Rilwan’s mother said that with this, their hope to find justice had been renewed. She had thanked journalists for their relentless pursuit in trying to find Rilwan.
Rilwan’s mother had shown Moosa Rilwan’s belongings, carefully maintained over the years.
