Criticism flowed against the Government following the power outage to Male’ City.

Much of the criticism states that the power outage was no coincidence, but a deliberate attempt to sabotage the planned event carried out by opposition.

The opposition said they had carried out events every Friday evening, where they gathered in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) headquarters and raised their concerns.

Today’s gathering had begun on schedule, but halted for a while after power went out to several areas in Male’. The opposition had continued the rally, powered by a backup generator.

All those who had spoken in the rally had criticized the Government for their failure to fulfil their pledges of round the clock electricity.

MDP Spokesperson and Parliamentarian for Maafannu North Constituency Imthiyaz Fahmy said mass scale theft was the only thing the Government was able to fulfil.

MP Imthiyaz vowed to carry on raising awareness on Government graft and corruption, noting that state backed corporations such as MMPRC and FENAKA were in the same situation.

The rally ended peacefully and was attended by many opposition figures.
