A vessel travelling with three passengers has capsized near Velassaru Maldives, an island resort in Malé Atoll.

The boat had been carrying a large bag filled with water, which swayed from one side to the other causing the vessel to topple.

The Maldives National Defence Force said that it had dispatched a speed boat to assist the vessel and it was pulled to neighbouring island resort, Embudu Village.

The passengers onboard, a Maldivian and two expatriates, all remain unharmed.
